Dr. Owen Lyne has accumulated a comprehensive set of rules and the interpretation of rules for the original game, some of the revisions, and quite a few non-standard variants! Also included are house rules used by some players. There are interesting differences between the US player and UK player standard rules especially the use of cards to gain additional armies. Risk: The Evolution of a Game

Dave Shapiro shares his remembrances as a wargamer with a fondness for the game of Risk. Dave takes us from all-weekend Risk marathons to the early days of GenCon in the early 1970’s. The post includes Dave’s take on some of the revisions published over the years including Castle Risk, Risk: Edition Napoleon, Risk 2210 A. D., and Risk: Lord of the Rings. He concludes with his views on the gaming hobby, and the importance of Risk as “…one of the foundations of modern gaming”.

One World Dominion and Cold Cash Risk

Interformic Games offers original board and card games plus game variants for free download, print, and play. Two of their variants relate to Risk from Parker Brothers/Hasbro. One World Dominion adds 44 countries and several enhancements to the rules. Cold Cash Risk combines Risk and Avalon-Hill’s game Acquire to form a conflict between international corporations. Rules for both variants are available for download.

Our Variant - Devastation Risk

A group of Risk wargamers known as the Atlanta Risk Community developed its own variant for the game. The variant includes additional rules for diplomacy and nuclear weapons plus there are scenarios available where players are given a set of countries based on World War II or Cold War situations.

VASSAL Module for Risk (most versions)

Dean Eubanks has created a module at the VASSAL web site for Risk, an abstract war game with many editions and versions originally from 1959 from the Parker Brothers Company. VASSAL is an engine for building and playing Internet-capable versions of turn-based, human-vs-human games. Hundreds of games are available for internet play at the web site.
