From: "David S. Napoleon used whole armies as mere canon fodder. During the "Great War," the soldier would vanish in the trenches. But, in the second half of the 19th Century, battles were contested by troops who carried the decisive weapons as personal arms. _Rifle_and_Saber_ is a tactical simulation (company level) of warfare in "the age of the rifle." 17 Scenarios simulate engagements of the American Civil War, the Franco-Prussian War, the Boer Wars, the Spanish-American War and others. Based on _Grenadier_ (an SSG), _Rifle_and_Saber_ employs a simpler, more refined system to simulate the more complex and deadlier nature of warfare from 1850 to 1900. A 22" x 28" mapsheet of various terrain is fought over by die-cut units representing muzzle and breech-loading infantry and artillery, mounted rifles, cavalry, and early machine-gun units. Combat morale, shock combat, improved positions and entrenching, as well as units' differing movement capabilities and weapon vulnerabilities are detailed in rules true to warfare waged with saber and rifle. ------- Dave Bieksza bieksza@aplcomm.jhuapl.edu ------- Where monsters rampage, I'm there to take them down ...
