HISTORICAL SINAI SCENARIOS

The following historical scenario sets-ups, unit desigantions,
unit starting locations, and reinforcement
schedules are based on
information provided by the book
"Elusive Victory" by Col. Trevor
N. Dupuy (U.S. Army Ret.) which was
publish in 1978. Among other
things this book provided the first
accurate account of the 73
war which up until that time had been
shrouded in much
misinformation and deliberate
inaccuracies. While submitted to
SPI, it was never published. Here it
is for your enjoyment.

Egyptian:
Egyptian units set up as in the
regular set-up. On the counters
the following additions should be
made. The 26NG, 86 PAL, and the
87 PAL units all have 8XX printed on
them. 4/11, 4/12, 5, 6, and
6(-) units all have 3XX printed on
them. 1 Arm, 1 Mech, and
2 Mech all have 4XX printed on them.
Of the extra Egyptian
counters two 4-5 Mech units have 1XX
printed on them and two 4-5
Mech units have 2XX printed on them.
Jordanian:
There are no changes or additions to
the Jordanian and Iraqi
counters.
On the mapboard place a Syrian fort
symbol on hex 2224. This is
an Egyptian fort and it follows the
same rules as the Syrian
forts do.

This is the set up for the Israelis in
the Historical Scenario
and in all other scenarios that use
the Historical set-up. Add
the following rule changes to the 67
scenarios.
17.4 The Israelis also had one of
their brigades earmarked for an
airborne insertion near Sharm El
Sheikh (hex 2251). On Game Turn
One the Israelis may take the Uri Inf
Brigade on hex 2936 and
place it on any clear or coastal hex
within two hexes of Sharm
El Sheikh. It may not be placed on a
hex occupied by an Egyptian
unit but may be placed on a hex
adjacent to one. The Israeli unit
may not move but may attack any
adjacent Egyptian unit on the
same turn that it makes this airborne
insertion. This rule only
applies in the Historical Scenario.

Reinforcements (19.1)
Starting on the second game turn after
the Israelis invade the
Golan Heights the Syrians roll for
reinforcements. He rolls one
die at the biginning of his Movement
Phase. A result of 1 or 2
brings in the reinforcements, any
other result means the
reinforcements are not brought in.
Reinforcements enter on the
east side of the mapboard in Syria.
Reinforcements may not enter
if Israeli units occupy or control all
of hexes of the 3900
hexrow in Syria.
Enter on the same turn that
Reinforcements are successfully
rolled for.

This is the set-up and reinforcement
schedule for the Egyptians
in the Historical Scenario. Any
additional forces from other
scenarios are added on as stated in
the rules.
24.44 Units with a movement allowance
on 1 take the whole
movement phase to move across the
Canal hexside.
24.45 The Egyptian 130th Mech Brigade
is a speical amphibious
unit with special capabilities. On
Game Turn 1 this unit may
cross the Canal from hex 0629 to
either hex 0729 or hex 0730 on
the first movement phase and then on
the second movement phase
move its full movement allowance
following the normal rules for
movement. This unit is not counted in
the six unit limitation per
turn in crossing the Canal.
24.46 On the first turn only the
Egyptians may move ten units
across the Canal. All of these units
must be Infantry units and
the 130th Brigade is not counted as
part of this limit.
25.23 Bar Lev hexes do not act like
Israeli units. An Arab unit
may enter an unoccupied operational
Bar Lev hex. A Bar Lev hex
has no Zone of Control. All that it
does is to halve the combat
strength of the occupying Arab units
in the hex. It loses these
attributes when it is destroyed.
25.24 The only way for an Arab unit to
attack a Bar Lev line hex
is to occupy the hex itself with the
attacking unit(s).
25.5 The Egyptian Reserve is now what
has been listed above.
These units still follow all the rules
for the Reserve.
On the following counters make these
additions. On the 4 Inf, the
117 Mech and the 120 Inf units place
2XX. On the 10 Mech, the 23
Arm, and the 114 Mech units place 3XX.
On the 2 Arm, the 3 Arm,
the 6 Arm, and the 6 Mech units place
4XX. One the 1 Mech, the 22
Arm, and the 113 Mech units place 6XX.
On the 8 Mech, the 11 Inf,
and the 12 Inf units place 7XX, On the
3 Mech, the 16 Inf, and
the 112 Inf units place 16XX. One the
134 Inf, the 135 Inf and
the 136 Mech units place 18XX. On the

schedule for the Syrians in
the Historical Scenario. Any
additional forces from other

25.51 The Syrians now have a reserve.
These units which are
listed above are not placed on the map
until the game turn after
the Isrealis have at least one unit
inside 1973 Syria for two
consecutive Israeli Movement Phases.
Once the Reserve has been
activated the units in it appear as
normal reinforcements at the
rate of one per movement phase.
On the following counters make these
additions. On the 2 Mech,
the 4 Arm, and the 91 Arm units place
1XX. On the 15 Mech, the 20
Arm, and the 65 Arm units place 3XX.
On the 12 Inf, the 61 Inf,
and the 132 Mech units place 5XX. On
the 1 Mech, the 68 Inf, and
the 85 Inf units place 7XX. On the 43
Mech, the 52 Inf, and the
53 Inf units place 9XX.
Jordanian Front
There is no change to the Jordanian
set-up and reinforcement
schedule. However in accordance with
rule 24.81 the first armored
unit sent into Syria is the 40th Arm
Brigade. The second armored
unit to be sent into Syria is the
192nd Arm Brigade.
